Loopwheeled Garments ShrinkageUpdated a month ago

Our loopwheeled styles are made on original antique loopwheelers. They knit slowly and under very low tension — only about a metre of fabric an hour — and we deliberately avoid aggressive chemical finishing. That is what gives the cloth its softness, density and character.

It also means the fabric behaves differently from standard high-tension knit.

It shrinks slightly on the first wash

Because the cotton is knitted under low tension, it will shrink a little (about 1 inch / 2.5 cm) the first time it is washed lengthwise. This is normal and part of how our loopwheeled styles settle into shape.

Choosing your size

  • The Originals (Made in Germany) styles run small — size up.
  • All other styles run true to size.

Compare the measurements under 'Form & Fit' on each product page with a shirt you already own.

Keeping the fit

Wash cold (max 30°C) on a gentle cycle with a maximum spin of 1000 rpm, reshape the garment while damp and air dry it. Avoid the tumble dryer — heat is what causes further shrinkage.
